spring and early summer at Point Pleasant Park

one of several wide paths leading to upper park woods

in 2003 a hurricane that struck Halifax directly took down 90% of the mature trees

young trees growing back alongside wild raspberry and blackberry bushes

one of the upper park crossroads

another path heading uphill

a pool below the path

granite and sandstone forms the foundation of the park

overlooking an inlet, shared peanuts encourage temporary friendship

first look at the Atlantic

still prepared - a cannon dating from the War of 1812

distant lighthouse with container ship on horizon

the sea can look cold on the warmest days

more beach - you may notice square foundations for wwii gun installations

a view toward the wwii beach fortress

close-up of fortress

a sailing ship

the Bounty's last appearance in Halifax - tragically sunk by Hurricane Sandy that autumn

the Bounty heading out to sea

the USCG Eagle on the horizon followed by local sailboats

people watching sailing ships

sign of a happy day

point pleasant's not very inviting swimming beach where sand is trucked in every other year or so

in winter it looks like this

what more can I say?

    1. I'm happy you enjoyed them, Marja-Leena. I've left out lots but you get the general idea.
In winter I count the distance walked by the number of tissues used - eyes and nose
      run in cold, windy weather.

  2. A fine walking route.
I wonder if crow and squirrel would like to share peanuts with me. :)

    1. It's a delightful walking route, Sean.
Even if they're not happy to share,
      I would be :)
